Arco - Soho Hill Motoring Centre, Birmingham, West Midlands 1970's

Arco (Atlantic Richfield Company) made only a brief appearance in the British market between 1970 and 1974, before that their sites were branded Atlantic - and by 1974 all their interests had been sold to Total. Arco were and still are in America the cut price petrol brand - a bit like Jet has always been in the UK. Eventually the entire Atlantic Richfield Company was bought out by the international corporate behemoth that is BP in around 2000 although more recently BP sold it on to Marathon Oil. This site in Soho Hill, Birmingham is proving hard to pinpoint on Streetview, there is one service station still operating in that area but it doesn't match with the buildings behind this one so suspect not the same place. There has of course been much redevelopment in Birmingham over the years so may be impossible to make the comparison.
