VIP - A418 near Ampthill, Bedford 1970's Tiny
An even more cropped photo of the big version.
This is four (two) photos merged into one big photo as best as I could manage without spending stupid time on it! This photo dates from the early 1970's and might show the site in transition from VIP to Texaco as the hollow pole sign appears very much to be the shape of Texaco signs of this era. Sadly one of the joins came right in the middle of the forecourt and the two halves were taken at different angles so a perfect merge was impossible. If one ignores the canopy changing midway the rest blends fairly well. The site is now occupied by a company called vision blinds and a full forecourt canopy still shows so the for sale sign in this photo was to sell it on as a going concern rather than for development. I do wonder if this photo dates from an era when VIP were leaving the British market. The A418 is the B530 these days. www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.0727205,-0.4886349,3a,75y,318.7...
