Multiple Brands - Oliver Cutts Ltd, 120-138 Walworth Road, South East London October 22nd 1953 Petrol Strike

This photo is scanned from a copy of The Illustrated London News dated October 31st 1953. The "Now Open" sign at the back is a bit ironic really. It's an enormous spacious forecourt in the days when land prices in London were affordable - and one of several premises Oliver Cutts were operating in this era. In this era Shell and BP were still tied in a combined effort with National Benzole effectively under the control of BP by now so several brands appear on site. Below you can see a second image from around the same era. The same view today shows there is a Kwik-Fit occupying a small amount of the original site but otherwise it's very much as you'd expect 21st century London to be - so many tall buildings it's hard to work out where the railway line is! www.google.com/maps/@51.4911135,-0.0974777,3a,75y,270h,90...
