Lothian 490 on Brighton Place, Edinburgh.
490 was captured on Brighton Place, Portobello while working route 21 from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to Gyle Centre via Niddrie, Portobello, Craigentinny, Leith, Goldenacre, Crewe Toll, Davidson’s Mains, Clermiston, and South Gyle. Much of Portobello has been a Conservation Area since 1977. The handsome villas in Brighton Place and East and West Brighton Crescent date from the 1820s and the architect was John Baxter, son of a local builder. In 2016, City of Edinburgh Council took the decision to remove the setts (cobbles) on Brighton Place but a well supported local campaign was successful in having that decision reversed and the setts were replaced. The street is the only one left in Portobello with setts.
