BR pocket timetable folder from 1977

Electrification of the West Coast Main Line from Weaver Junction (north of Crewe) to Glasgow was completed in 1974, with the train services marketed as “The Electric Scots”. This pocket timetable from three years later details train services from Glasgow Central to London Euston (inc Sleeper trains), Birmingham New Street, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria. Diesel hauled trains from Edinburgh Waverley (joined to the southbound electric services at Carstairs) enabled through travel from Edinburgh to Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Electrification of the Carstairs/Edinburgh section was completed in 1991 as an extension of ECML electrification and joining/dividing WCML trains at Carstairs was largely eliminated. Trains from Edinburgh to West Coast Main Line stations had, of course, used Princes Street station in the city until 1965.
