My current work explores techniques and processes mainly in the painting field. I tend to have a rather controlled way of working with paint as I like working finely and moderately accurately to achieve as higher standard final outcome as possible. However, I am not afraid to experiment and I also like to work freely as this gives me the chance to express my creative ideas through art.
I recently completed a project on absence of presence with the subject being my late Grandmothers house. I had the idea for this work as we were clearing out her house ready to put it up for rent and I wanted to stage the room as though she was still there, so I slumped the cushion on arm chair, turned the reading lamp on and made a cup of tea and put it on her little table next to the chair. Along with an ash tray with some smoked cigarettes, and one on the go, there were no trinkets left in the room but just bare furniture. Once I was happy with the atmosphere I had created, I took photographs from where I would sit when visiting her and also did a series of sketches to accompany them. I photographed other rooms in the house and the photographs had an eerie presence about them. This in my opinion was my most successful project to date.
I wish to continue to develop my ideas and Fine art painting practice at a higher level.
