Good ole' Revere Beach -- IS380 WK 2 assignment 1
Although it may not be the cleanest in America, the members of the Revere Beach community proudly boast that it is the oldest public beach in the U.S. On this relatively warm day, beach goers enjoy the space by running, playing with their dogs and relaxing to the rhythm of the tide. The large buildings overlooking the ocean are evidence of one of the social struggles that exist in the city. The residents of Revere Beach resisted the development of these apartment complexes unsuccessfully as a part of their efforts to maintain the integrity of the environment. They were able to stop recent attempts at building a casino in Revere which would have affected not only the financial situation here but the crime rate as well. This community is filled with residents who are caught in a yearly struggle against outside influences as the beach attracts sometimes unruly tourists each summer. This underlying battle against change has been passed on for generations. Like any good palimpsest, Revere Beach has and will continue to endure change. Those who live in this city have justifiable reasons to resist it's metamorphosis and have been instrumental in dictating the pace at which the story of Revere is written.
