Atlantis The Royal

The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

When they built Atlantis – The Palm on the outer crescent of the Palm Jumeirah it completely dominated all other buildings on the Palm such is its size. You can clearly see it from the mainland. I must admit I never liked it and still don’t as its right out of Disney World and all things over the top if you see where I’ve coming from … I’ve never liked pink as a colour and to paint it such a colour transcends into tackiness in my mind.

However, further along the crescent is the new kid on the block – Atlantis The Royal. This makes the Pink Palace look like a garden shed… and it’s enormous (my picture, thou taken from a speed boat out at sea doesn’t convey the scale of the thing).

The design hides the fact its 43 storeys high with 795 rooms and 17 restaurants as well as the world’s largest jellyfish aquarium. This is very high-end luxury and security to match at every available entrance. As they say, if you have to ask you can’t afford it!

Just to put it in context, on January 21, 2023, American singer and songwriter Beyoncé was asked to perform for an invitation-only crowd to commemorate the unveiling of the hotel. This was her first live performance since 2018. Beyoncé was reportedly paid over $24 million for the show, making it the highest-paying private concert in history, according to Forbes. The resort opened to the public on February 10, 2023, and the launch event lasted three days. Journalists, celebrities, and influencers were invited, given accommodation at the hotel and given first class airfare on Emirates
