The Sydney Opera House

Sydney, NSW, Australia

In all the years I’ve been taking pictures I’ve never taken as many images of a single place or object as the Sydney Opera House. Even as I write this blurb, I’ve not fully catalogued all my images from our holiday. I had a vision in my mind’s eye to take a lot of detailed architecture images as well as the conventional viewpoints, which surprisingly consists of only four – north, south, east and west views.

I was going to title this image “Utzon’s Masterpiece” but the history of the project and its construction is a very long drawn out affair, which resulted in Utzon resigning in 1966. Much like the Eiffel Tower and Parisians, the Opera House was hated by Sydneysiders until its completion in 1973, but now it is a much-loved architectural landmark and considered a masterpiece of the 20th century.
