Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Somewhere in Manchester

I’ve been meaning to shoot this building since the day it was completed. So, on my way to meet up with Eddie and Pete I made a detour to shoot it. Not the most interesting of structures or creative use of space I hear you mutter. However, the mundane can be made to look interesting. Obviously not most people’s idea of great design, but architecture has been forced to look at itself in recent years and I think it is all the better for it.

My reason for posting this little snippet goes back to a building I came across in 2010. If you ever saw Thomas Heatherwick’s UK Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010 then you appreciate the sheer genius and beauty of his design. At first glance it looks nothing more than a furry cube… but delve deeper and uncover the concept behind the cube and I’m sure you’ll agree.

Now… back to the image, any ideas what it is, or where it is?
