Welcome Poles
Welcome poles in front of the museum at Yaculta (Cape Mudge), Quadra Island, BC. One has its arms extended in welcome, the other two have their hands on their bellies, indicating a feast for a potlach. Traditionally, the third pole would have one arm extended upon which gift blankets were placed for potlach guest to take when they left the potlach, according to Brad Assu, descendent of a line of chiefs for the Yaculta village.
