L'église de Þingvellir ("Þingvallakirkja")

L'église de Þingvellir fut construite dès l'adoption de la religion chrétienne. L’Heimskringla décrit comment le roi Olaf II de Norvège fit envoyer du bois en Islande pour permettre la construction du premier édifice. Le bâtiment actuel, vraisemblablement plus petit que les bâtiments initiaux et très sobrement décoré, date de 1858-59 et la tour fut ajoutée en 1907.

 

Þingvellir Church was built as soon as Christianity was adopted. The Heimskringla describes how King Olaf II of Norway had timber sent to Iceland for the construction of the first building. The current building, probably smaller than the original buildings and very plainly decorated, dates from 1858-59, and the tower was added in 1907.
