Swallow dome of the Grand Mosque, Erzurum
The swallow dome (lantern dome, tüteklikli) of the Erzurum Grand Mosque, dating to 1179, was built using the corbelling technique, in which square or nearly square, rectangular spaces are protected by an overhead covering that is built of pieces of wood (or stone) overlaid on top of each other diagonally, starting from the corners.
