Nurse log
A beautiful nurse log contains a row of many small evergreens. Only when I looked closer did I notice that the lower trunk of every one was bare, and only the tops, which were out of reach of the invasive Sitka deer, had growth. It gave them a strange umbrella-like look. Lyell Island, Haida Gwaii, BC.
