Reflecting on rainforests

Calm waters reflect the tidal sedge grasses and the lush rainforest environment of the Pacific Northwest, the largest, almost roadless temperate rainforest ecoregion on the planet. North Pacific coastal forests are home some of the tallest species of trees, dominated by western red cedar, Sitka spruce, and western hemlock. Dense growths of epiphytes and mosses cover the trees, and lush vegetation is present everywhere. Indeed, in terms of biomass, these forests are the most massive ecosystems in the world.
