Ming Dynasty buildings
Hongcun Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lixian, Anhui Province, China, known for its well preserved Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. It was the site for some scenes in the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This image shows some of the ancient buildings on the shore of the Half Moon Lake in the village centre with its red lanterns and high horse head walls. The horse head walls served as fire breaks between buildings; the higher the wall the more prestigious the owner.
