Stilt village

Every year during the monsoon season Tonle Sap lake, Cambodia overflows and floods the surrounding low lands. To cope with this annual flood, people build their houses on high stilts, or establish floating villages that migrate from the lake to the surrounding rivers as the waters rise and fall. This image of a fisherman in his dugout canoe is from Kampong Phluk stilt village on the Tahas River, during the monsoon when Tonle Sap overflows into the river.
