A Level | Unit 3 | Finished final piece | Most recent.

Extract from accompanying essay:

“...Something old (alchemy), something new (my work), something borrowed (the style of my artists) and something blue...Within my work there have been a series of blue morpho butterflies. This image was not simply chosen because it was effeminate; they represent the fact that one day, we are going to die. This constant knowledge, is the reason why we are impatient (much like the work of Georges Mathieu), to wish our lives away.

My work, from my own research, is based on a wedding planners sketch book, and is meant to have a sense of naivety. The Alchemical idea of turning lead into gold, links to that idyllic picture and social gratification that the concept of marriage resonates.

My final piece shall be the creation of a wedding dress. When considering how to showcase my work, I was inspired by Su Blackwell's piece ‘While you were sleeping’. I would like to show a weightless and spectral aura in my piece; as it were suspended in time. The dress shall be made from a series of uniform panels; symbolising the uniformity of tradition.

...Many people after this life believe that they are entering a new one, either with their God or by coming back to Earth as someone else. This dress is meant to represent whole heartedly entering a new life with someone else; taking all our baggage, even the bits they can’t see from face value.

...My aim is not to provide an answer for this brief; I believe as artists we are to provoke the questions. What I hope to achieve through this project is a sensitively considered address of the progression in themes, techniques and ideas I have used throughout this Unit. I hope to offer the audience an insight to my own experiences and personal take on life, death and the possibilities of immortality...”
