Over the Hill

Dad, since I'm senior to you now, I think that

a few rule changes are in order.

 

"Like?"

 

Like I should be able to go for a walk by myself

whenever I want.

 

"What about aggressive dogs? The Dog Catcher?

Coyotes?"

 

Oh, ya.

Okay, I should be able to eat whatever and

whenever I want.

 

"How will you get to the grocery store or the

pet store? Where will you get the money to buy

what you want even if you get there? How will

you keep your weight under check? How will you

reach your shelf in the kitchen?

 

Oh, ya.

Okay, then, I should be able to tell you when I

want you to stay home from work so we can walk

and play together.

 

"I might lose my job and then we will eventually

have to move to the city. Are you aware of what

it takes to be a city dog?"

 

No. But it sounds terrifying.

Then I should be able to drive the car.

 

"Don't start that again."

 

Well, geez, Dad, you gotta give me something!

 

"Here's something: According to the American

Kennel Club, Blitz Results, Pets+Us, and Petcare

age conversion calculators, you are not as old

as I am yet."

 

Whoo-hoo! So I have nothing to worry about...

wait a minute.
