Introducing Brie and Beau—symbols of the profound connection between patient and provider. Brie was admitted to our inpatient rehab facility after experiencing a severe illness during pregnancy, which led to the emergency delivery of Beau and the subsequent loss of all four limbs. Both received critical, lifesaving care within our Health System.
When Brie entered Inpatient Rehab, she believed she would never be able to care for her newborn. The mission of our rehab facility is to empower patients to regain as much independence as possible. Recognizing Brie's deep desire to care for Beau, her occupational therapist, Bailee, dedicated herself to making this possible.
Brie's physical therapist, Carly, also played a crucial role in her recovery, assisting her with upright tolerance and sitting balance. This foundational work enabled Brie to develop the stability needed for daily activities and to interact more effectively with her baby.
This drawing depicts a milestone in their journey: Brie feeding Beau independently for the first time. With Bailee's ingenuity and Carly's support, Brie uses a specially designed cuff on her right arm to hold the bottle. This adaptive equipment, crafted from splinting material, symbolizes the creativity and compassion of her care team.
This artwork is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative impact of patient-provider relationships. It celebrates Brie's determination, the dedication of her care team, and the unbreakable bond between mother and child.
