The contributions of Indian and Indian American physicians to the American healthcare system are nothing short of extraordinary. Despite constituting only 1.35% of the U.S. population, those of Indian descent account for a staggering 8.5% of all practicing U.S. physicians. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Over 40,000 more are currently in the healthcare pipeline as medical students and residents.

This artwork pays homage to these dedicated professionals, individuals who have chosen a life of service and compassion. Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation, is the perfect embodiment of this desire to preserve, improve and extend life. Clad in a hybrid garment that blends the traditional white coat with a sacred sash, he stands as a symbol of the harmonious blend of cultural heritage and modern medical practice. The vibrant background, a swirl of color and energy, reflects the commitment required to pursue a career in medicine.

We are truly blessed by the contributions of the Indian American community to healthcare. Their commitment to education, their passion for medicine, and their unwavering dedication to patient care continue to enrich our lives in countless ways.
