Knitting, Norwegian Sheep’s Wool
Artist Statement - As a scientist, my work is filled with abstract ideas and often intangible outputs. Knitting and creating supports my wellness by giving me a physical, visible, and beautiful outcome to my efforts. The practice itself is meditative and calming. Engaging in an intentionally slow process, like knitting and fiber arts, helps to slow my mind from the busy and sometimes frantic pace of daily life, giving me the space to be more creative in every aspect of my life. Working with natural products from all over the world, like the sheep’s wool in this jacket from an historic woolen mill in Norway, gives me further connection to nature and the people across this beautiful world we live in.
