A Quilt: Giver of Beauty and Comfort
Creating the top of a quilt, or piecing, takes perseverance, attention to detail, and creativity. These are traits necessary as a caregiver as well. I have persevered as a nurse for 42 years. Caring for people and providing what they need is a comfort for them and brings me joy; I use my nursing knowledge and experience to meet my patient’s need. A quilt provides the perfect blanket; made of cotton so it is not too hot but has some weight to it so it can give a sense of being cocooned or held. Looking at and sitting under a beautiful quilt is comforting and restful. These are gifts we want to give to our patients as they work to heal.
This quilt top was created by me using a pattern named “Solar Flare”. I used a technique called paper piecing. This technique allows one to create sharp, exact points, in particular. It is constructed of cotton fabrics with batting sandwiched between a coordinated purple backing and the quilt top. My sister is a long-arm quilter and she custom-quilted it for me, adding her love, skill, and creativity to the final product.
The quilt speaks to me, and I hope it does to you as well.
See yourself as part of a colorful, rich tapestry surrounded by the intricate details of your life.
Please enjoy this quilt and let it help you see the beauty which is your life.
