Artist Statement:
Ishana Tata is a first-year medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2023 with a B.A. in Biology. Although her education is STEM-focused, she is a lover of the arts. She was extremely fond of reading and painting while growing up and later was a competitive singer in Indian music, competing on television shows and in national competitions. Writing has been a powerful and therapeutic way for her to find her voice and share her thoughts with the world. She believes that the creative arts are essential in fostering healthy communities where stories are truly heard. She is currently fascinated with reading memoirs, and is excited to continue to explore writing essays and poetry as a creative medium.
