Happiness and Hope (prior to baking)
Artist: Christine Harmeyer
Category: Baking
Personal expression: In the past 6 months, I’ve been one of the lucky few whose job hasn’t changed a lot. As the Program Manager for the KUMC Botanic Gardens, my goal every year is to bring happiness and hope to everyone who works here, attends school here or visits our campus through my garden designs and planters. This year I felt it was more important than ever to put in my best effort to have our campus appear as “normal-looking” as possible. I decided to express this through focaccia bread decorated with flowers, vegetables and herbs grown on campus. It’s also a nod to everyone who tried to bake bread for the first time during the pandemic to create their own version of happiness and hope in their own homes.
