Milky Way over Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory, La Palma (Canary Islands)

The Milky Way setting over the Observatorio Roque de Los Muchachos (alt. 2400m) on the island of La Palma (Canary Islands) on Oct. 5, 2015. Air glow (orange / green hue) can be seen close to the horizon as well as the lingering effect of the "Calima" phenomenon and the red illumination of some of the buildings caused by rear car lights. The CANARY laser guide star is emitted from the William Herschel Telescope. It was extremely windy that night and keeping the camera steady even on a tripod was a challenge.
