African Djembe Drum

The West African djembe is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands.

 

The djembe has a body carved of hardwood and a drumhead made of rawhide of goat. A medium-size djembe carved from one of the traditional woods weighs around 9 kg, It can produce a wide variety of sounds, making it a most versatile drum.
