Bouquet of Blossoms

This is an ANTIQUE Japanese Irotomesode. Irotomesode are semi-formal kimono for married women. This piece likely originates in the Taisho Period (1912 - 1926) or early Showa Period (1926 - 1989). It displays a cart full of flowers in bright and bold colours. This kimono features one embroidered bush clover crest.

I have inspected this kimono in detail and there is some significant damage as can be seen in the photos above. It appears that someone may have attempted to scotch guard, dry clean or otherwise wash this kimono as there is quite a lot of bleeding on the patterned portions. There are also some large prominent stains on the exterior and on the hakkake. As a result this kimono would be best suited to some sort of remake. The stitching on the interior of the kimono near the kimono is also coming loose, but this can be easily repaired. Overall I would rate this kimono fair antique condition. This kimono is 100% silk.

MEASUREMENTS:

Length: 148cm

Arm Span: 122cm

Width Across Back: 57cm

Total Width of Skirt: 124cm

Sleeve Drop: 68cm

SIZING

If you are unsure of how to interpret the kimono's size it is important to know that the length (collar - hem) should be approximately 10cm longer to 10cm shorter than the wearer's overall height (longer is better). This is because the excess length will be folded up at the waist. Meanwhile, the skirt should wrap around the hips a full 1.5 times. The armspan should also reach wrist to wrist on the wearer. In this case, the kimono will ideally fit a woman about 138cm (4'6") - 158cm (5'2") tall, with hips about 83cm (32.5") around. There is some give and take in these measurements though.
