Lepidopterophobia

Medium: Emulsion, Acrylic on Bedsheet

(Work in Process) This painting is based around the fear of butterfly and moths (Lepidopterophobia). I used many different techniques for this piece. The base that I painted on is made out of a bedsheets which symbolises the beginning of fears which start when you are a child in your crib. The fear of 'the monster under the bed/in the closet' and the fear of the dark are the most common fears a child has. I then primed the sheet using emulsion paint and then used a sponge and various sized plastic stencils to create the background. There was a wash made out of purple acrylic paint and water that was used after circles were complete to unify the background. The butterflies were then also stencilled on and then painted with more detail and color.
