Kinzua Bridge State Park

by Lisa Meadville

Kinzua Bridge was built in 1882 and was the highest bridge in the world at 301'. In 2003, an F-1 tornado knocked down 11 of the 20 towers. The remaining towers were refurbished and the State Park was formed. There is now a walkway out to the end of the platform with a glass floor for a dizzying view of the ruins below. Trails have recently been opened for exploring the ruins of the bridge up close.
