Module 7 Improved
In Module 7 we used Photoshop to improve some of our images. For the second photo of the portfolio, I chose this image. When I first took the original photo of this altered image, it reminded me of something. It seemed familiar to me but couldn’t put my finger on it. Then after looking at the photo and focusing on the brick path, it dawned on me and reminded me of the yellow brick road from the Wizard of Oz. This inspired me to alter the reddish brick in the original photo to that of a vibrant yellow color. The picture still felt a bit dull now that the only vibrant color was the yellow brick path. I remember how colorful the movie was with the bright greens and vibrant blues. I decided to isolate parts of the photo to increase the vibrancy and saturation of the various colors. These modifications now makes the whole picture stand out and draws in the viewer. I feel this photo is art. All the colors seem to work together and the way the sun is just visible from behind the trees allows the sun to be part of the image and not just the light source. The grass and trees all seem to be clearly defined without being to overpowering with green. There is plenty of texture. The brick path actually cuts into the photo, and forces the viewer to follow the lines through the curved path. The angle of this shot allows the path to be the focal point and with it being yellow it really draws in the attention. Although the path does flow out of the image to the right, the bushes in the center of the image seems to intercept the view and draws the attention into a different direction with a lot more scenery. The vivid blue sky seems to really accent the yellow brick to give almost a painting effect. This is of course because of the exaggerated colors in the image. Trying to take this image really helped me in working with composing and using lighting effectively. It was challenging because of how the sun was angled into the image. I worked many angles to try to hide the sun behind the tree but still allow the light to come through. Many of the other angles had the light too overpowering and the sun was not able to be distinguished other than a big bright spot on the right half of the image. In this shot, although it is a bright spot, the sun can still be distinguished and be part of the image.
