Mindset
Now finishing my 18th year of being in school, I have had MANY opportunities to figure out how I learn best and what my mindset is. Now, as I enter the teaching profession I hope to help my students become passionate, lifelong learners with a growth mindset. Through every experience both good and bad, we can learn about ourselves and become better individuals if we constantly strive to improve. The way we respond to various situations can tell us a lot about our mindsets and personalities. Throughout university and especially this year, I have been challenged to be more critical about my own thinking, beliefs, values and attitudes while forming my own teaching practice. I have been given the opportunity to learn about the 21st century literacies, going far beyond the traditional views of reading and writing. As our world is rapidly changing, our teaching methods and school experiences must change accordingly. Therefore, as a teacher I hope to provide my students with rich learning experiences that guide them to becoming confident 21st century literate citizens. Furthermore, I will teach the various literacies while integrating the curriculum to give my students authentic experiences that encourage personal growth. Throughout this semester, I have truly seen how many innovative teachers are online sharing ideas and experiences. I've had the pleasure of following multiple educators and learning from them mainly through blogs and twitter, although I have barely scratched the surface. At the core of great teaching is educators who use constant reflection, search for new ways to teach, and inspire others. I plan to do the same!
