Tree Roots

Known as "buttress roots" many trees in the Amazon Rain forest have developed these large spans of roots for support. Because these trees must grow fast in order to reach the canopy for more light they do not have time to grow very thick. Since the trees are tall and thin the root system but be adapted to support the weight of such tall and thin trees.
