That Tree
Probably everyone in New Zealand knows that tree. It's debatably the most photographed tree on the planet. It's not a wonder why. A short walk from Wanaka, and a unique location for a tree to grow. I wonder how long this tree will be around. I wonder how much revenue this tree has generated as a landmark, a destination, and by photographers throughout the world who have photographed it and sold images that people adorn their homes and offices with. It's perhaps also the richest tree in the world in that regard, all things considered. It's amazing the colors that Wanaka can see, even though it's mostly surrounded by mountains and hills. The weather here is more timid than the west coast, which can be brutal and amazing. Humbling really.
I'm lucky to have this photograph. It's one of 2,000 I recovered from a 2.5 month trip where I took maybe 20,000+ photographs. Back up your data! What you can't see on this small image is there is a little duck sitting at the base of tree, it's pretty cute.
