Pointe Venus Va'a
"The Va'a a is the Tahitian term encompassing the different pirogues (canoes). There are two types of canoes (vaca) in Polynesia. Single hull vaca with an equaliser, used for fishing and connecting the islands, and the double hull vaca used for big journeys and wars. The smallest ones are composed of a streamlined hull canoe attached to a lateral equaliser (ama) with two pieces of wood and ties of coco fibre. The biggest are composed by two hulls attached by wood pieces supporting a deck on which a shelter is built. Va'a can be handled with a single paddle, and sometimes with big sails."
