WEEK 44 – Spirit Halloween (fmr Books-a-Million), Southaven, MS (III)
This pic is pretty similar to the previous one, except now I’ve lifted my phone up so that the camera includes a bit more of the old Books-a-Million wall décor hidden behind Spirit’s pegboard walls – I mean, it’s only a really tiny bit more, but at this rate every bit counts, haha!
We’re still unable to see the Joe Muggs hanging sign – unfortunately – but at least we know that it’s still back there. On the other hand, over on the wall to the left of that, something that was here last time is actually missing now: you might recall that a random letter “N” was still hanging on the wall, leftover from the old “Kids-a-Million” signage, back when Overstock was occupying the building in winter 2018/2019. Sadly, that last piece was unceremoniously removed by the time Spirit opened to the public in fall 2020.
I’m not sure if Spirit removed it as part of their preparations for moving in, or if the landlord of the building removed it in advance of the same. Honestly, Spirit trashing a prior retailer’s décor definitely seems like it would be out of character for them (!); but I’m not really sure I buy the latter argument either, especially because, if that were the case, then why wouldn’t the landlord have removed it prior to Overstock’s tenancy instead? Oh well… whoever is responsible, the whole thing just makes me sad that I never asked for it, as I really would’ve liked it for my collection. Of course, though, it wouldn’t have been Overstock’s to give away, so I likely wouldn’t have had any success with that anyway.
(Relatedly, there's a similar piece I'd love to get my hands on that’s inside the Southaven building Spirit is currently squatting in this year... maybe if that building stays vacant for a few years more and Spirit returns a couple more times, I'll be able to build up the courage to ask about it someday, haha!)

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
