Barney is in Quarantine

WEEK 26 – Stateline Kroger Revisited, Set 4

Something else Market Report Media asked about is the dark space beyond that sale alcove: thankfully, that one’s much easier to explain. If you’ve been through my past photos of this store (accessible in this album), you may have been hoping/expecting to tour the interior of Barney’s Café once again… but unfortunately, due to the pandemic that was just beginning to panic everybody across the US, the café was predictably closed indefinitely on both of my March 2020 visits, with access to the seating area blocked off in this photo by some hastily-gathered implements (some more permanent barricades look to have been put up a few days later, as you can see if you flip two photos back).

I assume the café has reopened by now, in June 2021… but I can’t say with total confidence that it will remain here forever, especially if Kroger decides it wants to absorb this space for its Pickup program, as it has done at so many other stores. If nothing else, then, at least we can take solace in the fact that this area remained entirely untouched in the Remix remodel, with the old bountiful décor wallpaper staying on the walls and the even older Barney’s Café stained glass window and ceiling/lighting fixtures also hanging around unscathed! In fact, about the only change that was made (that I know about) is the covering over of the windows and doors with some new clings; unfortunately, that meant that the old dogbone “thank you” decal was hidden, but if you look close enough you’ll find that it's still there, just a layer deeper now.

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
