Walter's Way

WEEK 18 – Columbia Ave. BI-LO, Lexington, SC (II)

 

While we’re here, here’s a close-up of one of the many “Walter’s Way” signs here in the produce department. For those of you asking “Who the heck is Walter?”, unfortunately I don’t have a good answer for you! All I know is that he’s a fake, invisible spokesperson* who BI-LO brands its produce departments after, with the slogan “Our produce is better because of Walter.” The gimmick is that Walter selectively picks each and every item in the BI-LO produce department for maximum freshness.

 

The concept seems pointless in a way, but BI-LO adamantly keeps using it to this day; this isn’t just outdated décor here. I don’t know the full history behind Walter, but as a matter of fact it would seem he had an even larger workload in the past, since this post from Acme Style shows he used to “work” for Giant-PA, too.

 

* – Unless he is real, and I’ve just offended him XD
