Superlo Remodel Forthcoming

Some “current events” news now – as first revealed to the world by l_dawg2000, the freezer case replacement currently taking place at Superlo Foods Southaven is evidently just a harbinger of bigger things to come: a full-scale remodel of the whole store! This certainly came as a surprise to the both of us, and I’m very glad l_dawg took the time to study this floor plan posted along the front end of the store and notice the tiny note reading “Remove tin from all walls – demo existing wall finishes – provide new décor,” or else we would’ve been caught totally off-guard just walking in one day to see all the old Schnucks décor suddenly removed and replaced!

On that note – yes, sadly, the old Schnucks décor appears to be not long for the world at this point :( Your opinions on the décor aside (if you haven’t seen it, it’s pretty divisive – “tin” is definitely a good way to describe the entire package, lol!), it’s still going to be a shame to see it removed, 1) because with recent improvements Superlo has been taking care of at this location, it was looking better than ever, and 2) because this is the very last example of 100% intact Schnucks décor in the Mid-South, and its removal will erase away yet another element of local supermarket history. (I say “100% intact” because the Cordova Farmers Market also kept some old Schnucks décor up, but they’ve substantially altered its appearance.)

Right now we’re not sure when exactly the décor swap is set to begin; could be as soon as the freezer cases are done (which seems to be right about now – they looked to be wrapping up this past weekend), as soon as remodel crews are done over at Orange Mound (new Superlo set to open next month – more on that here), or perhaps as late as January, assuming Superlo doesn’t want to employ the remodel crew over the holiday season – who knows. No matter the start or end dates, I know the two of us will definitely do our best to stay on top of the situation, and of course I’ll be sure to bring y’all a post-remodel set and some point in the future (as well as one final pre-remodel set, too).

Concerning the décor Superlo will be remodeling to… I didn’t quite think Superlo would ever remodel this place, or in fact that they bothered to remodel most of their stores at all, but upon further research it seems they’ve actually been making an effort to introduce a common décor package to a number of their stores. I’ve got conflicted feelings on this: obviously, this is an admirable effort, one I can certainly appreciate the value of. But the décor itself – yikes! Elements of it are good (in fact, “yikes” is likely too harsh), but there’s one major, central thing that’s just not right at all… I’ll spare y’all for now, seeing as how we still can’t say for sure this is what the Southaven store will receive, but here’s a quote from l_dawg that should serve as an indication of the stuff: “never *ever* thought I'd say this, but it would seem the Southaven store might soon be - downgrading - from Corrugation Abomination XD How is that even possible!??” Consider yourself warned… XD

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
