5270 Riverdale // 4700 Mid-South
I suppose I ought to preface this description by saying that this photo is pretty unassuming for what's about to follow, haha!
What you're looking at here is the new Divine Life Church Training and Worship Center along Riverdale Road in Memphis, which opened earlier this year. Oh, and its former fuel center outparcel on the right. Whoops – did I forget to tell you that this was once a Schnucks, and before that a Seessel's by Albertsons?! My bad XD Yes, this building has been vacant since 2003 when Schnucks shut it down. In the meantime, Schnucks and its Memphis-area successor Kroger kept the fuel center and convenience store operating for over a decade past the store's closure, but it too finally bit the dust sometime recently. But now, thankfully, the store (if not the now-abandoned gas station) has found new life. With that, it leaves only three of its fellow former Seessel's by Albertsons stores empty (only two of which are still standing structures; the third has long been demolished).
...You may be wondering where I got those numbers from. Well, I'm happy to tell you that they are a product of my and Albertsons Florida Blog's (mainly AFB's!) many hours of research that ultimately resulted in this, the complete Albertsons Mid-South Division Store List! That link will take you over to my post at the Mid-South Retail Blog, which in turn has a link to the full table which is hosted on the Albertsons Florida Blog. Additionally, I have three “auxiliary” posts featuring screenshots of the spreadsheet that divide it by stores located in certain geographic areas; you can find those over at the MSRB as well. By default, the table serves as a complete list of Seessel's stores also – at least from the years 1998 to 2002 – so naturally, I'm pretty happy about that... but I'm even more proud to have worked together with AFB on this awesome project and to finally get to reveal it to the rest of the world! As I say in the post, it is our hope that this little table will serve as a definitive resource for anyone searching out anything regarding Albertsons' short-lived Mid-South Division (aka the 4700 series) for whatever purpose.
