D1993 - 4 Months Old - Leeds Holbeck

Brush Type 4 D1993, in the company of D1815 and D1994 at Leeds Holbeck (55A) motive power depot in July 1966. Still very much a steam depot, it is easy to see why, with D1993 being barely four months old, diesel locomotives became so filthy during this time. Delivered new on 26th March 1966, D1993 was initially allocated to York (50A) depot. It was renumbered 47291 under the TOPS scheme in March 1974. In November 1995, Railfreight grey 47291 collided head-on at Wembley with 47200, sustaining severe damage to the No.1 end. It was subsequently withdrawn, but not scrapped until June 2004, at C.F. Booth scrapyard, Rotherham. D1993's younger sister behind, D1994 to traffic on 16th April of 1966, faired much better and survives in preservation today at the GCR(N) Ruddington.
