D5350 at Eastfield

BRCW Type 2 (later class 27) D5350 on shed at Eastfield (65A) in the company of Stanier 'Black 5' No.45467 and English Electric Type 1 (later class 20) No.D8079 in August 1966. Of interest is the fact that the yellow warning panel has yet to be applied to the front of D8079, the date that this transparency was taken, falling into that transitional period for the application of yellow warning panels.

D5350 was delivered new in September 1961 to Eastfield (65A) MPD, one of sixty nine class 27 locomotives built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW) during 1961 and 1962. D5350 entered traffic in August 1961. Unlike some other class members, it was to spend all of its career in Scotland until its demise. Although the class 27 was a later version of the BRCW Sulzer Type 2 (class 26) it was not as long- lived as some members of that class. Withdrawn in May 1986 as 27004, after almost twenty five years service and disposed of at Vic Berry's scrapyard in Leicester during September 1987.
