Waiting to Cross

Any fresh covering of snow at Beichang Washery, Chengzihe, does not stay white for long in the shadow of these stark and disused washery buildings. Two immaculately-dressed ladies wait for SY1437 to pass before crossing the line and walking on to town over the sheet ice-covered right of way, pavements and roads. SY1545 shunts the washery in the background. Heilongjiang Province, China, 3rd January 2010.
