Marple and Gillott, Attercliffe
I had a knack of visiting scrapyards early in the morning before the management turned up for work! On this occasion it was the end of the line for these unique and powerful Army 0-8-0 diesel-hydraulic Barclays from the Kineton and Bicester Military Railways (works Nos.504, 502, 500 and 503 in that order). This is Marple and Gillott's yard located at the former BR Attercliffe Goods Yard in Sheffield. It is 7.00am in pouring rain on 5th June 1985. The eight-coupled wheel arrangement was rare for diesel locos in Britain, and these were supplied between 1964 and 1966.
