How the Mighty have Fallen
The mighty 'QJ' 2-10-2s working over the Jingpeng Pass in Inner Mongolia provided the remarkable opportunity of being able to witness raw steam power working in incredibly harsh conditions right into the twenty-first century. Some three decades and more after the demise of mainline steam in the UK, the sight of QJs 6996 and 6351 slogging away with an eastbound freight near Xiakengzi on 29th November 1999 was an awe-inspiring sight in such cold and crisp conditions after recent snowfall. Treasured memories!
