Willow Holme
Observed by many from the Kingmoor Road over-bridge but rarely photographed at close quarter; Andrew Barclay 0-6-0 fireless 'No.3' (W/No.2193 built in 1944) at C.E.G.B. Willow Holme Power Station exchange sidings on 23 October 1975 during the early morning as the mist rises from the River Eden and 'Brush Type 4' 47247 passes on an up freight from Kingmoor Yard. By this time the West Coast Main Line through Carlisle was electrified and the two fireless locos were found of use, but by then sporting a bright yellow and 'Caledonian blue' livery in place of the standard Barclay works green and red which they carried until at least 1969.
This transparency was No.37 on a roll of 36 and suffered from that orange cast half way across the frame. The wonders of modern technology!
