Recent History

In crisp and clear conditions, just a few kilometres beyond the city of Jixi-Chengzihe on 7 January 2010, Jixi Mining Bureau's 'SY' class 2-8-2 No.1340 needed every bit of assistance from its two 'SY' bankers out of view at the rear in order to surmount the steep climb up into Zhengyang Colliery yard with this long rake of empties from the China Rail Jixi Xi exchange sidings. This was the daily morning working destined for Xinghua mine with empties much sought after by the colliery yard despatchers, after delays on China Rail. The branch to Xinghua curves off to the left and the train undertook a reversal in the Zhengyang colliery yard to continue along this branch for a few more kilometres. The noise of slipping wheels and irregular exhaust blasts from the three locomotives climbing this grade was incredibly awe inspiring.
