The Suli Muli are a Melpa-speaking cultural group from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, known mainly for their participation in traditional festivals called sing sing. They perform collective dances with chanting and drumming, wearing elaborate headdresses made from moss, plant fibers, feathers, and sometimes hair, with faces and bodies painted in dark pigments. The name Suli Muli comes from words or sounds in their ritual songs, and their identity is primarily ceremonial and performative rather than a separate ethnic tribe.
They are part of the broader Enga cultural world, where many communities historically engaged in tribal fighting and warfare over land, before the modern conflict‑resolution practices developed.
