Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children REVIEW
2 pics in the space of a week? WHAT IS THIS--
So yeah, it was a rainy day and I’d been wanting to see this for a while now, so here I go with my review of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (that’s a loooong title).
Where to begin. I love this film so much right now, and I wasn’t expecting to. Everyone plays their parts really well, and they all share great chemistry. It’s good to see the ‘Peculiars’ behaving like normal children, rather than X-men. That being said, there are still bad guys to fight, the main one being good ol’ Samuel L. Jackson. He is so evil, yet somehow still hilarious. I was a little confused about his peculiarities, though. Like, he can shapeshift but ALSO turn his hands into weapons? It’s not really explained, but it probably has something to do with his ‘experiments’. That being said, the fight scenes in this film are really fun, while still being cool and intense.
However, as much as I hate to say it, there are inevitable
flaws, and that saddens me just a bit. As mentioned before, there was Jackson’s confusing set of ‘powers’. I also found myself almost sniggering at a scary point, because Jackson’s hand basically turned into a giant fountain pen nib. But the MAIN problem I had was with the gore. This film can be almost brutal and very frightening, especially for having a 12a rating.
Overall, this film was a lot of fun, despite being dark at times. Can’t wait for it on Blu ray, 9.4/10.
