Islwyn Legacy
When Stagecoach in South Wales bought Islwyn Borough Transport in 2010, it inherited a mix bus fleet that mostly comprised of Optare Solos and Vectas, Marshall and East Lancs-bodied MANs, a couple of Marshall-bodied Darts and a Plaxton Verde-bodied Volvo B10B.
13 years on, and just two vehicles remain in service, both Solos. Whilst 47716 is a run of the mill 8.8m example, 47720 is a rarer 10.2m variant that always reminds me of a dachshund.
Based at Porth depot, she can usually be found on the local services within the Rhondda. In this June 2024 shot taken on Rheola Road in Porth, she is passing beneath the town's by-pass on her way to Pontypridd Road to take up a journey on Service 151 to Gilfach Goch.
